Paediatric Hospital

The Paediatric Hospital at Mpilo provides comprehensive, specialist-led medical and surgical care for infants, children and adolescents. Our teams are trained to handle the full spectrum of childhood illness and injury in a child-friendly environment designed to minimise distress for young patients and their families.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Specialist care for premature and critically ill newborns with trained nursing and medical support around the clock.

Paediatric Surgery

Surgical intervention for congenital and acquired conditions in children, performed by specialist paediatric surgeons.

General Paediatric Medicine

Diagnosis and treatment of childhood infections, chronic illness, nutritional disorders and developmental conditions.

Outpatient Paediatric Clinic

Follow-up and ongoing care for children discharged from ward, or referred from community clinics for specialist review.

Maternity Hospital

The Maternity Hospital provides end-to-end care for mothers and newborns โ€” from antenatal check-ups through delivery and postnatal recovery. Our experienced midwifery and obstetric teams support normal and high-risk pregnancies with compassion and clinical expertise.

Antenatal Care

Regular monitoring and check-ups for expectant mothers, including ultrasound, screening and health education.

Labour & Delivery

Safe, supported delivery services for normal and assisted births, staffed by registered midwives and obstetricians.

High-Risk Obstetrics

Specialist management of complicated pregnancies including pre-eclampsia, diabetes and multiple gestation.

Postnatal & Neonatal Care

Recovery support for mothers and initial care for newborns, including breastfeeding support and neonatal screening.

General Hospital

The General Hospital is the broad medical and surgical core of Mpilo, handling a wide range of adult medical conditions and surgical procedures. It houses operating theatres, specialist medical wards, emergency services and diagnostic departments.

General Medicine

Inpatient and outpatient adult medical care for conditions including diabetes, hypertension, respiratory and cardiac disease.

General Surgery

Elective and emergency surgical procedures performed by specialist surgical teams in fully equipped theatres.

Orthopaedic Department

Management of fractures, joint conditions and musculoskeletal injuries, including surgical and conservative treatment.

Emergency & Casualty

24-hour emergency services for trauma, acute medical emergencies and urgent surgical cases from across the region.

Specialist Hospital

Opportunistic Infections Hospital

The OI Hospital provides specialist care for patients living with HIV/AIDS, focusing on the management and treatment of opportunistic infections in a compassionate, stigma-free environment. Our teams are dedicated to improving quality of life and long-term outcomes for patients.

HIV/AIDS Treatment

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation and management, supporting patients on their long-term treatment journey.

OI Management

Diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, pneumonia, cryptococcal meningitis and other opportunistic infections.

Counselling & Support

Psychosocial support, adherence counselling and patient education for individuals and affected families.

Outpatient HIV Clinic

Regular outpatient monitoring for stable HIV-positive patients, including viral load testing and clinical review.

Advanced Care for Complex Conditions

Beyond the four hospitals, Mpilo houses several highly specialised units that serve as regional referral destinations.

Radiotherapy & Chemotherapy Centre

Mpilo's Oncology Centre is a regional referral destination for cancer care, serving patients from Bulawayo and surrounding provinces. The centre offers radiotherapy treatment and chemotherapy services for various cancer types, with an oncology team providing holistic support throughout the treatment journey.

Renal Unit

Mpilo's casualty department operates around the clock, seven days a week, accepting walk-in emergencies and ambulance referrals. The team handles trauma, acute medical emergencies, surgical urgencies and critical stabilisation before onward admission to specialist wards.
